Tailgunner — Midnight Blitz Campaign Case Study

In 2025, I directed and photographed the cinematic visual campaign for the British heavy metal band Tailgunner during their Midnight Blitz era. The album was produced by K.K. Downing, founding member of Judas Priest, and released through Napalm Records.

One of the key tracks on the album, Tears in Rain, references the iconic monologue from the film Blade Runner. The band wanted the visual identity of the project to reflect that same atmosphere of neon-lit futurism and emotional intensity. This aligned directly with my existing visual language, Dystopian Romanticism™, which draws heavily from cyberpunk cinema and the cinematic use of urban night environments.

My role involved full creative direction and photographic execution, including concept development, location selection, lighting design, and the creation of press and promotional imagery. Shot primarily on the streets of London at night, the campaign used neon reflections, dramatic colour contrast, and cinematic composition to create a visual world that felt both futuristic and grounded in the raw energy of British heavy metal.

The resulting imagery translated the band’s sonic identity into a coherent visual mythology that could work across album artwork, press features, and digital promotion. The campaign was credited by Napalm Records and featured across international rock and metal media including Guitar World, Planet Rock, and Blabbermouth.

This project demonstrates the type of cinematic visual direction I create for musicians, bands, and artists who want their imagery to feel as powerful as their music. My work focuses on developing a clear visual identity that can translate a band’s sound into a recognisable aesthetic across album artwork, press photography, promotional campaigns, and live media.

For Tailgunner’s Midnight Blitz campaign, produced by K.K. Downing of Judas Priest and released through Napalm Records, I developed a cinematic neon-noir visual style inspired by the Blade Runner aesthetic referenced in the track Tears in Rain. The imagery was designed to combine the energy of British heavy metal with atmospheric urban storytelling, creating a visual world that could live across press features, editorial coverage, and digital promotion.

I collaborate with musicians, labels, and creative teams to build imagery that goes beyond standard band photos. My approach blends creative direction, cinematic lighting, and narrative photography to create images that feel like film stills rather than traditional promotional shots.

Whether for album campaigns, press photography, tour promotion, or artist branding, my work helps musicians develop a visual language that audiences recognise instantly. These cinematic portraits and atmospheric scenes are designed to strengthen a band’s identity and make their visuals as memorable as their sound.
